Upon student graduation, every effort is made to encourage post-secondary education, training, or employment opportunities.

Culture of Learning

AdvancePath designs each course of study to satisfy specific state high school graduation requirements. In instances where districts have graduation requirements that go beyond state requirements, AdvancePath works with the district staff to create an acceptable "tailored" solution. To satisfy the graduation requirements of our partner districts, AdvancePath creates rigorous curriculum structures that satisfy state and national standards for each course.

For each semester course, students work on discrete skill development, master new content, and successfully complete major projects and mastery tests. The design requires each course to be broken into logical units. Each unit is subsequently divided into discrete lessons covering specific objectives. Generally, each lesson contains four component activities: a tutorial that provides the instructional presentation of the given content/skill; an application exercise where the student can practice to ensure understanding; a scored mastery test; and, offline activity to including independent study and/or work with the teacher during small-group instruction.

Graduation from the Academy requires seniors to complete a senior portfolio, which includes:

  • A review of the completed individualized learning plan
  • An oral review by the student of his or her accomplishments since enrolling in the Academy
  • An examination of the completed course work in the student's portfolio
  • An interview with an adult other than the student's teacher
  • An essay on the student's one- and five-year goals

AdvancePath is strongly committed to graduating students with the skills necessary to succeed in their post-secondary endeavors. In districts with work experience plans, the Academy will offer work experience as an elective credit. Through this plan, students acquire concrete life skills and marketable experience for post-secondary opportunities. Each student in the Academy can receive instruction in the area of work competency/employment maturity skills. Community service learning is also an option for meeting the requirements. This option is student driven and requires that he/she interview with a targeted community agency, outline a proposal of service, and complete the pre-specified goal with the selected agency.
