Personalized Pathways
Initial assessments and ongoing evaluations of student progress are used to create a Personalized Learning Pathways (PLP) for each student. The PLP maps a plan of action for each student and details the action steps for completing his or her diploma requirements.
The PLP serves as the student's road map and includes:
- A summary of the student's learning styles
- Academic and skill areas in need of acceleration/recovery
- A course of study map
- Courses needed for make-up credit
- Courses needed for graduation requirement completion
- Courses needed for post-secondary acceptance
- Special needs
- All assessment measurements
- Work experience/community service goals
- Evaluation of grades
The PLP outlines the academic concepts and skill categories where students may need specific math and reading acceleration and lays out the specific courses the student must complete. The PLP is continually updated and reviewed as the student progresses and forms the basis for informational updates with the student's parents or guardians.
The PLP serves as a goal setting and tracking tool. In many cases, the PLP is the first time a student has seen a comprehensive picture of his or her performance against the requirements needed for graduation. Rather than overwhelming students, the PLP explicitly shows them that they can successfully complete the work required to earn a high school diploma. As students embark on their course of study, they can visually track their progress towards meeting their goals.
